Crabgrass will start to grow in the spring as we reach a constant soil temperature of 52 degrees.
(Remember soil & air temperature are two different things). Crabgrass germination can continue thru mid-summer,
maturing & becoming a real problem July thru early September. Depending on the season and weather conditions,
you can have additional generations of crabgrass throughout the summer months even after the pre-emergent is gone.
Pre-emergent’s create a barrier on the soil surface. Crabgrass seeds are controlled when they germinate and come into
contact with this barrier. Pre-emergents under ideal conditions have a residual of 90-120 days. Excessive rainfall can
move the pre-emergent barrier deeper into the soil allowing crabgrass & weeds to germinate above it.
If the barrier is broken and crabgrass emerges, post emergent controls for crabgrass can be applied, however, we do not
recommend this because the good grass in these areas are affected and in most cases die back leaving a void in the turf
allowing the crabgrass to recover. The best way to address these problem areas are reseeding them, late summer going
into the fall. A thick lawn, along with a pre-emergent is better competition against crabgrass and weeds.
Pre-emergents only work as well as the turf they are being applied on.
Pre-emergents do not control all weed type grasses (i.e. Johnson Grass, Quack Grass, Dallisgrass,) In the event you have
a weed type grass not controlled by the pre-emergent you will have to use a non-selected herbicide like Roundup. Read
the label and follow the directions. These areas treated with Round Up will then need to be reseeded. Areas previously
treated with a pre-emergent, you need to wait 3-4 months from the date the application was made to do any seeding.
We use the most advanced technology in crabgrass control, providing both pre-emergent control and early post emergent
control of crabgrass during early seedling growth, allowing more time to apply pre-emergents.
In the event we might have extreme weather conditions or other factors that would disturb the pre-emergent barrier.
We make two applications of pre-emergent and in some cases, due to conditions beyond our control, you can still
have a problem.
All of our lawn applications and their formulations are determined, based on seasonal needs and weather conditions.
Applied Late Spring and/or Summer, along with your regular scheduled lawn application depending on weather conditions.
Treatment will reduce the population of grubs in your lawn.
Turf damage resulting from grub activity will be minimized.
100% grub control cannot be guaranteed.
Weather conditions can influence the effectiveness of the grub treatment.
Severe infestations may require more than one treatment.
You will be invoiced for additional treatments of grub control.
Will help the fight against moles along with traps & baits.
We cannot guarantee this will eliminate a mole problem or other animals from digging in the lawn looking for food.
Mowing at least 3” high to help shade the pre-emergent barrier on the soil surface from excessive sunlight. Excessive sunlight helps breakdown the pre-emergent barrier and weed control products. Mowing the lawn short decreases the efficiency of pre-emergents and weed controls applied.
Watering as needed in times of dry weather. Cracks in the soil and grass turning brown, due to stress from lack of water, disturbs the pre-emergent barrier and creates an avenue for crabgrass & weeds to grow. Healthy lawns require 1-2” of water weekly, depending on weather conditions.
Do not disturb the soil surface after pre-emergents have been applied. Mole activity, worm activity, raking the lawn, pets running through the lawn and aerating can greatly disturb the barrier allowing crabgrass & weeds to grow. Reseed thin & problem areas in the lawn to help thicken these areas up to better compete against crabgrass and weeds.
Our program consists of four applications per year.
Applications consist of balanced Fertilizer with Slow-Release Nitrogen, ensuring nutrients are
available to the lawn when needed, 2-Applications of Pre-Emergent crabgrass control, Broadleaf weed control. Insecticide for
surface feeding insects. Applications and their formulations will be determined and scheduled based on seasonal needs and weather
conditions. Weather conditions and soil types influence how well pre-emergent herbicides perform.
Traps or Baits both are recommended.
Because traps can be difficult to use, we strongly suggest the use of Talpirid or Victor, worm shaped baits. These baits mimics moles
natural food source, and should only be used in areas with active mole activity. Treated mole infested areas should be monitored
regularly & retreated as needed. Traps, Baits and Grub Control all three are weapons to help the fight with moles.
